Softener Sizing by Grain Hardness in Eielson Afb, AK

Softener sizing in Eielson Afb, AK is where a lot of installs go wrong. A unit that's too small regenerates every night, wastes salt and water, and wears the valve out early. One that's too big can sit so long between cycles that the resin channels and softens poorly.

Eielson Afb, AK Water Softener Installation sizes by the numbers. We test your water hardness in grains per gallon. If you have iron, we add about 3 to 5 grains for every part per million of iron, because iron loads the resin too. Then we multiply by your daily water use, which is usually around 60 to 75 gallons per person.

Here is a simple example. A family of four on 20 gpg water uses about 280 gallons a day. That's 5,600 grains a day. To regenerate roughly once a week, the softener needs about 40,000 grains of usable capacity, which points to a 48,000 grain unit run at an efficient salt setting.

We also check the peak flow rate of your house. A big home with three bathrooms needs a valve and tank that won't drop pressure when two showers run at once.
